Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release February 24, 2011 Abbeville Woman Dies in Single Vehicle Crash Lafayette- This morning, Louisiana State Police investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 733 near Robley Drive that claimed the life of an Abbeville woman. According to investigating troopers, on February 24, 2011, at 2:30 a.m., a 1999 Mercury SUV was traveling east on LA 733 approaching the draw bridge. For unknown reasons the driver of the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed both lanes of travel, and traveled down an embankment. As it was traveling down the embankment, the vehicle overturned causing two of the three occupants to be ejected from the vehicle. One of the occupants, 24-year-old Brittany Hopper of Abbeville, LA, was killed as a result of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. The other two occupants, 33-year-old Karin A. Lefeaux of Sunset, LA, and 19-year-old Andrea Boiteaux of Franklin, LA, were transported to a local hospital. Lefeaux sustained moderate injuries, and Boiteaux sustained critical injuries. The crash remains under investigation, and troopers are still trying to determine who was driving the vehicle. This is the 9th fatal crash and 9th fatality Troop I has investigated this year. For More Information Contact: | |||
