Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release March 3, 2011 Breaux Bridge Woman Arrested for Insurance Fraud St. Martin Parish- Yesterday Louisiana State Police detectives assigned to the Lafayette Insurance Fraud Unit arrested a Breaux Bridge woman for charges relating to insurance fraud. In November 2009, 30-year-old Jennifer Ballard Richard of Breaux Bridge, LA, filed a claim with her insurance company for a $20,000.00 engagement ring she claimed she lost. Richard’s insurance company paid her to settle the claim. Richard was able to provide provided information to the insurance company indicating that she had lost the ring and wished for the policy to remain in effect. In April 2010, Richard filed another claim with her insurance company for the second ring, again claiming that it was lost. During the course of the investigation detectives were able to determine that the first ring and the second ring, Richard claimed to have lost, were actually the same ring. Based on the information they gathered, detectives were able to secure an arrest warrant for Richard. Yesterday Richard was taken into booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail for Insurance fraud and Theft.
