Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release March 4, 2011 Unrestrained Driver Dies in Single Vehicle Crash Evangeline Parish- Today, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 3042 north of Ville Platte. The crash claimed the life of a 19-year-old Ville Platte man. According to investigating troopers, on March 4, 2011, at 8:50 a.m., a 2001 GMC truck was traveling north on LA 3042 north of Ville Platte. For unknown reasons the driver, 19-year-old Jacob Fontenot of Ville Platte, LA, exited a left curve and crossed the centerline. Fontenot’s vehicle began to rotate, traveled off the west side of the road and entered a ditch. After entering the ditch, his vehicle struck a culvert and overturned. Fontenot was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Fontenot was transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. For More Information Contact: | |||
