Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release December 7, 2010 One-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Crash St. Landry Parish- This evening, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on LA 1161 at Tee Mamou Road. The crash left a 1-year-old child in critical condition. According to investigating troopers, on December 7, 2010, shortly after 5:00 p.m., 24-year-old Kayla Anderson of Ville Plate, LA, was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile passenger car north on Tee Mamou Road. A 2002 GMC truck, driven by 49-year-old Charles Klumpp of Ville Platte, LA, was traveling west on LA 1161 approaching Tee Mamou Road. Anderson failed to stop at a two-way stop sign, and drove within hazardous proximity to Klumpp’s vehicle. Klumpp attempted to avoid hitting Anderson, but was unsuccessful. The front of Klumpp’s vehicle struck the right side of Anderson’s vehicle. Anderson’s vehicle rotated off the road, overturned, and came to rest in a ditch north of the road. A 1-year-old passenger in Anderson’s vehicle was not restrained, and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Two other passengers in Anderson’s vehicle, an unrestrained 3-year-old female and an improperly restrained 5-year-old male, sustained moderate injuries. They were also transported to local hospitals. Anderson received minor injuries in the crash. Klumpp was not injured. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers. The results of the samples are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Charges relating to this crash are pending the outcome of the investigation. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police reminds drivers that children must be properly restrained in an age and weight appropriate seat.
