Kaplan Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash

Kaplan- This morning, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 13 north of Kaplan. The crash claimed the life of a Kaplan man.

According to investigating troopers, on January 2, 2011, about 4:15 a.m., 33-year-old Corey Mayeux of Kaplan, LA, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala north on LA 13 near Bluebonnet Road. For unknown reasons, Mayeux drove off the left side of the road, struck a ditch then a utility pole.

Mayeux was not restrained and died as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained and the results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

This is the second fatal crash and second fatality in the Troop I area in 2011. Troopers want to encourage the public to make the responsible decision this year and buckle up every time you get in a car. Louisiana Law requires that all persons traveling in a motor vehicle be properly restrained. While a seatbelt will not save you in every crash, it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
