Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release January 17, 2011 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Crash Lafayette Parish- Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 1252 that claimed the life of a Lafayette man. According to investigating troopers on January 16, 2011, at 5:00 p.m., 40-year-old Marcus Sonnier of Lafayette, LA, was driving east on LA 1252 near Melancon Road in a 2000 Ford Explorer. For unknown reasons, Sonnier traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected to the left, ran off the left side of the road and struck a culvert. Sonnier, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to a local hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, Sonnier was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Troopers believe alcohol was a factor in this crash. Troopers obtained toxicology samples and have submitted them to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation. This is the 4th fatal crash and 4th fatality Troop I has investigated in 2011. For More Information Contact: | |||
