Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release December 2, 2011 Alcohol Suspected to be a Factor in Fatal Crash New Iberia- This morning, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a three vehicle fatal crash on LA 14 near New Iberia. The crash claimed the life of a New Iberia man. According to investigating troopers, at 4:32 a.m., 23-year-old Brae Schaubert of New Iberia exited a private driveway driving a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle east on LA 14. As he was exiting the private driveway, Schaubert lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle rolled onto its side and Schaubert was ejected. Schaubert came to rest in the right lane of LA 14. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. A 1996 Dodge Intrepid driven by 22-year-old Jhordi Henderson of Abbeville, was traveling east on LA 14 in the right lane. Henderson did not see Schaubert lying in the middle of the lane and struck him. A 1999 Kenworth 18-wheeler driven by 29-year-old Willie Morgan of Erath, was traveling behind Henderson and also struck Schaubert. Schaubert died as a result of the crash, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner. Henderson and Morgan were not injured. Troopers suspect Schaubert was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained from all three drivers. The samples have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. These crashes remain under investigation. Drinking and driving continues to be a major problem across the state. While Troopers have seen a decrease in fatal and serious injury crashes caused by drunk drivers, there is still a long way to go. Troopers have been in active in schools, throughout industry, and alongside civic organizations sharing the life-saving message of driving safety throughout the state. The ultimate goal is to bring needless deaths and injuries caused by impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving to an end. Troopers will continue to bring this message to the public through continued educational outreach programs and various enforcement initiatives. The motoring public is urged to help State Police fight impaired driving by never allowing an impaired person to drive and reporting impaired or aggressive drivers immediately by calling *LSP (*577) from a cellular phone.
