Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release December 8, 2011 Eunice Man Dies in Fatal Crash St. Landry Parish- This morning, Louisiana State Police investigated a single vehicle crash on US 190 east of Eunice. The crash claimed the life of a Eunice man. According to investigating troopers, at 8:58 a.m., a 2001 Honda Accord driven by 33-year-old Russell Fontenot of Eunice was traveling east on US 190. For reasons still under investigation, Fontenot ran off the right side of the road, traveled through a ditch and struck a utility pole. Fontenot sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance. A short time after arriving at the hospital, Fontenot succumbed to his injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes. For More Information Contact: | |||
