Unrestrained Passenger Dies Following Crash on I-10

ST. MARTIN PARISH- Today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 east of Breaux Bridge which claimed the life of a Beaumont woman.

According to investigating Troopers, at 3:30 p.m., 30-year-old Angel Zermeno of Brownsville, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet truck west on I-10. Zermeno was towing an unoccupied 2005 Jeep Liberty behind his truck. For reasons still under investigation the Liberty broke free of Zermeno’s vehicle, crossed the median and struck a 2008 Nissan driven by 23-year-old Alycee Henley of Beaumont.

Henley, who was restrained, sustained moderate injuries. Two other passengers in Henley’s vehicle sustained moderate injuries. A third passenger, 24-year-old Grace Lee of Beaumont, was unrestrained and died as a result of the crash.

Troopers do not suspect impairment as a factor in the crash; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind drivers and passengers that Louisiana Law requires that all persons, regardless of seating position, must be restrained. While wearing a seat belt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
