TROOP I NEWS RELEASE March 20, 2013 Crash in St. Mary Parish Claims Two Lives ST. MARY PARISH- Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA Highway 182 at Sun Road which claimed the lives of two men. According to investigating Troopers, at 11:44 p.m., 25-year-old Bryan Mitchell of Houma, was driving a 1994 GMC SUV west on LA Highway 182. For unknown reasons Mitchell drove off the right side of the road, entered a ditch, his vehicle overturned and struck a utility pole. Mitchell, who was restrained, and 40-year-old Tyronne Gray of Thibodeaux, who was unrestrained, were pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner. A third occupant in the vehicle, 33-year-old Anna Collette of Franklin, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital. Troopers are still working to determine if she was restrained. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Last year, 62% of the fatal crashes investigated by Troop I involved some form of impairment. While results are still pending in this crash, Troopers remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Even after having just one drink, decision making abilities are hindered. Make the responsible decision every time, don’t drink and drive. For More Information Contact: TFC.
