TROOP I PRESS RELEASE May 13, 2013 Motorcyclist Killed in Crash ST. MARTIN PARISH- Today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police investigated a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 31 north of Poche Bridge Road which claimed the life of a Breaux Bridge man. According to investigating Troopers shortly before 9:00 a.m., 29-year-old Coby Champagne of St. Martinville, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet truck south on LA Highway 31 when a piece of tin fell out of his truck. As Champagne was slowing down, his vehicle was struck from behind by a 1998 Honda motorcycle, driven by 52-year-old Bobby Sutton Sr. of Breaux Bridge. Sutton, who was wearing a helmet but did not have a motorcycle endorsement, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner. Champagne was not injured in the crash. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. The Louisiana State Police website, LSP.ORG, provides information on motorcycle safety classes.
