TROOP I NEWS RELEASE May 30, 2013 Lafayette Man Arrested for Aggravated Rape LAFAYETTE PARISH- Today, Detectives with Louisiana State Police arrested a Lafayette man for charges relating to the rape of a young female relative. In January of this year, Detectives received a complaint that 66-year-old Joseph Thibodeaux of Lafayette had engaged in a sexual relationship with a female relative under the age of twelve. Based on the information, Detectives began investigating the complaint and they learned the encounters occurred 40 years ago. Enough information was obtained and a warrant for Thibodeaux’s arrest was secured. Today, Detectives arrested Thibodeaux for aggravated incest and aggravated rape. He was taken into custody in Lafayette without incident and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for the warrant. This case remains under investigation. If convicted of aggravated rape, Thibodeaux could be sentenced to life in prison or could face possible capital punishment. If convicted of aggravated incest Thibodeaux could be sentenced to 99 years in prison. This case remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police will continue to work with its local, state and federal partners to locate anyone who preys on the innocence of a child.
