| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP I NEWS RELEASE January 11, 2013 Youngsville Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash ABBEVILLE- Yesterday afternoon, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 14 at Grosse Isle that claimed the life of a Youngsville man. According to investigating Troopers, on January 10, 2013, at 4:30 p.m., a 2001 Ford truck driven by 22-year-old David Hilton of Youngsville, was traveling east on LA Highway 14. For reasons still under investigation, Hilton’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, overturned, struck a tree and a business before coming to rest. Hilton, who was not restrained, was pronounced dead by the Vermilion Parish Coroner. A passenger in Hilton’s vehicle, 27-year-old Grant Vercher of Erath, was also unrestrained and was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Last year over 60% of people who died in fatal crashes in the Troop I area, were unrestrained. Troopers remind drivers that Louisiana Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to be properly restrained. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash, it will greatly reduce the risk of injuries in most crashes. For More Information Contact: | |||
