TROOP I NEWS RELEASE

Alabama Woman Dies in Two Vehicle Crash

ACADIA PARISH- Today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 365 at LA Highway 35 which claimed one the life of an Alabama woman.

According to investigating Troopers, at 1:38 p.m., 53-year-old Donna Saenz of Sampson, AL, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 west on LA Highway 365. As Saenz was approaching LA Highway 35 she failed to stop at the 2-way stop sign. Her vehicle was struck by a 1996 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by 41-year-old Barry Gotreaux of Vile Platte.

Saenz was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Gotreaux, who was restrained, sustained minor injuries. Troopers are still working to determine if Saenz was wearing a seatbelt.

Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Last year, 62% of the fatal crashes investigated by Troop I involved some form of impairment. While results are still pending in this crash, Troopers remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Even after having just one drink, decision making abilities are hindered. Make the responsible decision every time, don’t drink and drive.
