TROOP I NEWS RELEASE

September 19, 2013
Man Arrested for Theft Following Crash

ST. LANDRY PARISH- A Bunkie man is in the St. Landry Parish Jail for felony theft charges and child endangerment following a crash on LA Highway745 near LA Highway 10 north of Washington.

Yesterday, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA Highway 745. When the investigating Trooper arrived he discovered that the vehicle involved, a 2009 Dodge Ram, was suspected of being used in a nearby theft which had just occurred. Investigating Troopers determined the driver, 32 year old Jace Deshotes of Bunkie, traveled off the road into a ditch while trying to flee the scene where the theft occurred.

During the investigation, Troopers were able to determine that Deshotes had just taken two generators and a pressure washer from a nearby residence. The items, which were valued at over $3000.00, were recovered near Deshotes vehicle. Deshotel was not injured in the crash; however, a five year old child who was with him during the incidents did sustain minor injuries.

Deshotel was arrested and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for careless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, theft over $1000, criminal trespass and child endangerment and an active warrant from Lafayette Police for Theft over $5000.

This case remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted in their investigation by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
