TROOP I NEWS RELEASE

October 1, 2013
Texas Man Dies Following Crash on I-10

Acadia Parish- Today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on Interstate 10 west of the Estherwood exit which claimed one life.

According to investigating Troopers, shortly before 3:00 p.m., 70-year-old Francisco Silva of Clute, Texas, was driving a 2006 Kia SUV east on I-10. For reasons still under investigation Silva traveled off the road, struck a guardrail and overturned in the median. Silva, who was restrained, was transported to an area hospital where he was later died as a result of his injuries.

While impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples have been obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Last year, 62% of the fatal crashes investigated by Troop I involved some form of impairment. While results are still pending in this crash, Troopers remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Even after having just one drink, decision making abilities are hindered. Make the responsible decision every time, don’t drink and drive.
