Motorcyclist Dies Following Crash

EVANGELINE PARISH- Today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 10 near Gretta Lane which claimed the life of a Mamou man.

According to investigating Troopers shortly before 11:30 a.m., 49-year-old Johnny Buxton of Mamou, was driving a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle west on LA Highway 10. For reasons still under investigation, Buxton traveled off the right side of the road and struck the embankment of a private driveway. Buxton, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. A short time after arriving at the hospital, Buxton died as a result of his injuries.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.

The Louisiana State Police website, LSP.ORG, provides information on motorcycle safety classes. The classes range from basic rider course to the advanced rider course. Anyone interested in attending motorcycle safety courses can go to http://lsp.org/motorcycle.html for more information.

Last year, 62% of the fatal crashes investigated by Troop I involved some form of impairment. Troopers remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Even after having just one drink, decision making abilities are hindered. Make the responsible decision every time, don’t drink and drive.
