Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release July 5, 2012 Early Morning Crash Claims Life of Scott Man SCOTT- Early this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on US Highway 90 west of LA Highway 724 which claimed the life of a Scott man. According to investigating troopers, on July 5, 2012, at 2:34 a.m., 28-year-old Scotty Guidry of Scott, was driving a 1991 Ford Explorer west on US Highway 90. For reasons still under investigation, Guidry’s vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, traveled through a ditch and overturned in a canal. Guidry was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. It is unknown if Guidry was impaired at the time of the crash; however, toxicology samples have been obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Troopers are still working to determine if Guidry was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation. While it is unknown if Guidry was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, troopers remind drivers and occupants that Louisiana Law requires all occupants to wear a seatbelt. When properly worn, a seatbelt can greatly reduce a person’s risk of injury or death in a traffic crash. This is the 24th fatal crash and 28th fatality Troop I has investigated in 2012.
