| Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release January 3, 2012 Fatal Crash Claims Two Lives Evangeline Parish Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 29 south of Chataignier. The crash claimed the lives of two Evangeline Parish residents. According to investigating troopers, on January 2, 2012, at 9:30 p.m., a 2007 Chevrolet truck driven by 43-year-old Mitchell Fontenot of Ville Platte, was traveling south on LA 29. Fontenot failed to negotiate a left curve and traveled off the right side of the road. Fontenot’s vehicle struck a ditch and overturned several times. Fontenot, who was restrained, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, 48-year-old Mary Vizena of Mamou, was not restrained and died at the scene as a result of her injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes. For More Information Contact: | |||
