Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release February 20, 2012 Driver Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Early Morning Crash Evangeline Parish- Today, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 13 at LA Highway 29 which claimed the life of a Eunice man. According to investigating troopers, on February 20, 2012, at 6:40 a.m., 24-year-old Tommy Dore of Church Point, was driving a 2011 Dodge truck south on LA Highway 13. A 1996 Dodge truck, driven by 21-year-old Adam Meaux of Eunice, was traveling south on LA Highway 13 approaching Dore. For reasons still under investigation, Dore crossed the centerline and struck Meaux’s vehicle head on. Dore, who was properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Meaux was critically injured in the crash and was also transported to an area hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Meaux succumbed to his injures. Troopers are working to determine if Meaux was properly restrained when the crash occurred. While it is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers. The samples have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Motor vehicle crashes are unexpected events. By taking precautionary steps including never driving while distracted or impaired, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved and/or injured in a crash.
