Fatal Crash on US 190 Claims Life of Church Point

Last night, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on US 190 west of Krotz Springs which claimed the life of a 72-year-old Church Point man.

According to investigating Troopers from Troop I, on August 12, 2012 at 7:19 p.m., a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by 31-year-old Frank Greene of Pineville, was traveling west on US 190 in the right lane. A 2007 Hyundai Sonata driven by 20-year-old Morgan Allain of Plaquemine, was traveling west on US 190 in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, Greene changed lanes and struck the right side of Allain’s vehicle. After impacting Allain’s vehicle, Greene traveled onto the right shoulder and struck a 1997 Volvo tractor trailer which was disabled. Greene, after hitting the tractor trailer, also struck 72-year-old Ronald Burleigh of Church Point. Burleigh, the driver of the tractor trailer, was standing outside of his vehicle because it was disabled.

Burleigh was pronounced dead by the St. Landry Coroner. Allain and Greene sustained minor injuries in the crash. Both Greene and Allain were properly restrained when the crash occurred. Neither were transported to a hospital.

While it is still unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While it is still unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, Troopers remind drivers that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Troopers have seen the number of deaths and serious injuries due to impaired drivers decrease in recent years; however, there is still work to be done. Troopers will continue to enforce Louisiana’s DWI laws across the state and remain committed to a public education campaign to end impaired driving. Have a plan and designate a driver before you decide to drink.
