Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release August 14, 2012 Unrestrained St. Martinville Woman Dies in Crash CYPREMORT POINT- Early this morning, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 83 near LA Highway 319 which claimed the life of a St. Martinville woman. According to investigating Troopers, on August 14, 2012, at 12:19 a.m., 52-year-old Cynthia Rogers of St. Martinville, was driving a 2002 GMC truck south on LA Highway 83 entering a right curve. For reasons still under investigation, Rogers drove off the left side of the road and entered a ditch which resulted in her vehicle overturning. Neither Rogers nor her passenger, 35-year-old Clay Guillory of Patterson, were restrained. Both of them were ejected from the vehicle. Rogers was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Guillory was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind drivers and occupants of motor vehicles that state law requires everyone to be properly restrained. When properly worn, a seatbelt can greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes. This is the 5th fatal crash Troop I has investigated this month. For More Information Contact: | |||
