| Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release November 21, 2012 Troopers Investigating Single Vehicle Fatal Crash ST. MARTIN PARISH- Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 347 north of St. Martinville which claimed the life of a Breaux Bridge man. According to investigating Troopers, on November 20, 2012, at 8:37 p.m., 27-year-old Janual Wiltz of Breaux Bridge was driving a 1992 Ford Mustang south on LA Highway 347. For reasons still under investigation, Wiltz crossed the center line and traveled off the left side of the road. Wiltz’s vehicle entered a ditch then overturned. Wiltz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead by the St. Martin Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained from Wiltz and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. In the past four days, Troopers in the Troop I area have investigated four fatal crashes. Lack of restraint use was a common factor in three of the four crashes. Louisiana Law requires that all persons riding in a motor vehicle be properly restrained. Proper restraint use can reduce your risk of injury in most crashes. “Four fatal crashes in four days is something that is alarming to all of us,” says Captain Becket Breaux, Commander of Troop I. “We are going to do everything in our power to ensure that there are no more empty chairs around the holiday table this year. We remain committed to working closely with our law enforcement partners to keep the roadways in Acadiana as safe as we can.” Troopers remind drivers they can dial *LSP (*577) to report an aggressive or impaired driver.
