Troop I - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release September 24, 2012 Troopers Seize Over 15 Pounds of Cocaine OPELOUSAS- Yesterday, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I, with the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, arrested a Houston man and woman for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. On September 23, 2012, at 10:49 a.m., Troopers stopped a 2004 Ford F-150 for a traffic violation on I-49 southbound at US Highway 190. During the course of the stop, Troopers received permission from the driver, 21-year-old Virgina Garcia of Houston, TX, to search the vehicle. While searching the vehicle Troopers located, and seized, over 15 pounds of cocaine. Garcia was placed under arrest and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for improper lane use and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. Troopers also arrested and booked 33-year-old Manuel Gama of Houston, TX, who was traveling with Garcia, for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. The seized cocaine has an estimated street value of over $152,000.00. This case remains under investigation. Troopers across the state will continue to work with local and federal law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest people who transport narcotics into and through Louisiana.
