Successful Holiday Weekend DWI Enforcement Wave

Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Troop A spent the holiday weekend participating in “No Refusal” initiative and working extra hours in an effort to get impaired drivers off the roadways before they were able to cause serious injuries or deaths by making a bad decision and getting behind the wheel. Through the use of federal grant funds and with the help of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, Troop A was able to compliment its current shifts with additional Troopers on patrol throughout the weekend. As a result of aggressive enforcement throughout the holiday weekend, Troopers arrested 45 motorists for DWI throughout the Troop A area. As part of the “No Refusal” initiative, Troopers obtained a warrant for a blood sample of one individual arrested in East Baton Rouge Parish for DWI who refused to submit a breath sample to the Intoxilyzer 5000. Troopers obtained a blood sample and submitted it to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Each of the motorists arrested for DWI were subsequently booked into the parish jail where they were arrested.

Troopers will continue to enforce the state’s DWI laws aggressively. Impaired drivers are a danger to themselves and to anyone else sharing the road with them. Alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription medication, or over-the-counter medication…it makes no difference when it comes to operating a motor vehicle on our roadways. Impairment caused by any of these is dangerous and it is against the law. Troopers will arrest impaired drivers regardless of the source of impairment. There is never a good reason for an impaired driver to get behind the wheel!
