Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: September 19, 2010 St. Mary Parish Fatal Crash Late this afternoon, a crash involving three vehicles killed one person and injured two. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:40 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 90 near LA Hwy 318. The crash involved a 1999 Toyota pickup, driven by a juvenile (O/M 17 yrs) of Franklin, LA, a 1992 Chevrolet SUV, driven by Ramona Philips (B/F 43 yrs) of Jeanerette, LA, and a 2008 Ford SUV, driven by David L. Leckelt (W/M 73 yrs) of Houma, LA. The Toyota was east bound on US Hwy 90 when it collided with the Chevrolet, which was also east bound on US Hwy 90. After impact, the Chevrolet exited the left side of the roadway, traveled through the grass median, and into the west bound lanes of US Hwy 90. After entering the west bound lanes of US Hwy 90 the Chevrolet collided with the west bound Ford. The juvenile received minor injuries and was transported to Franklin Foundation for treatment. Charges are pending against the juvenile. Philips received moderate injuries and was transported to Lafayette General for treatment. Leckelt was transported to Iberia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
