Edmonson, Superintendent US 90 Crash Claims One Life And Critically Injures Another August 3, 2008 On August 1, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop I, investigated a two vehicle on US 90 near La 318, within St. Mary Parish. Ninety-two year old Edward Collins of Charenton, La, was operating a 1999 Mercury Sable. Collins was attempting to cross US 90 at a median crossing. Fifty-Four year Joe Monceaux of Berwick, La, was operating a 1999 Dodge pick-up eastbound on US 90 in the outside lane approaching the median crossing. Collins failed to yield when crossing US 90 and proceeded forward into the path of the pick-up truck. The truck struck the Collins vehicle on the driver's door. Collins and a passenger forty-nine year old Joyce Loston of Jeanerette, La, were transported to Dautrieve's Hospital in New Iberia and determined to have serious injuries. Monceaux, had minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. It is unknown at this time if Collins and Loston were restrained at the timer of the crash. Alcohol/Drugs are not suspected in this crash. On August 2, 2008, Louisiana State Police –Troop I was notified by Dautrieve’s Hospital that Joyce Loston had died from her injuries sustained in the crash. Furthermore, the condition of Edward Collins had deteriorated and he was now in critical condition and was being transferred to Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
