Edmonson, Superintendent Motorcyclist Dies In I-49 Crash June 29, 2008 Louisiana State Police – Troop I is currently investigating a fatal crash on I-49 near milepost 41 at the St. Landry/Evangeline Parish line involving an eighteen-wheeler and a motorcycle. The crash occurred at approximately 12:00 pm, when the operating a motorcycle was traveling northbound on I-49 in the left travel lane. The motorcyclist proceeded to pass an eighteen-wheeler that was in the right travel lane. For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist loss control and was struck by the eighteen-wheeler. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the motorcyclist will not be released, until next of kin can be notified of the crash. Alcohol/Drugs are not suspected in the crash. The driver of the eighteen-wheeler was not injured. This is the Thirty-first fatal crash and the thirty- fifth fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
