Louisiana State Police – Troop I is currently investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on US 190, east of Port Barre, within St. Landry Parish.

Forty – five year old Cheri Hook, of Port Barre, La was operating a 2004 Nissan Xterra SUV eastbound on US 190 in the left travel lane. Forty – two year old Carl Weems, of Arkansas, was operating a 1998 Chevrolet pick-up eastbound on US 190 in the right travel lane. For reasons unknown, Mrs. Hook lost control of her vehicle and struck the pick-up truck. Hook’s vehicle continued off the right side of the roadway, striking several trees. Mrs. Hook was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash however; she was not able to survive the tremendous impact. According to witnesses, it was raining hard at the time of the crash.

This is the twenty-eighth fatal crash and the thirty- second fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008. Motorist are reminded to slow down in inclement weather.
