Dies In Crash

June 29, 2008

Louisiana State Police – Troop I is currently investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on La 343, just south of La 98, within Acadia Parish.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:00 am this morning, when Twenty-four year old James Mccauley Walters of Breaux Bridge, La. was one of three occupants in the single vehicle crash. The vehicle was northbound on LA 343 prior to the crash, crossed the centerline and then re-entered the northbound lane of travel. The vehicle exited the east side of the roadway, entered the ditch and struck a concrete culvert. The vehicle overturned and came to rest facing north in the ditch on the east side of LA 343. Walters was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants, nineteen-year old Kylor D Broussard, Opelousas, LA, and a fifteen-year old juvenile left the scene prior to troopers arriving. Both were later located, at a local hospital seeking medical attention for moderate injuries. The driver of the vehicle is still unknown and the investigation will continue. Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in this early morning crash.

This is the thirty-fourth fatal crash and the thirty- fifth fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
