Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated a fatal crash on La 35, near La 358, within St. Landry Parish.

The crash occurred just after 9:00 pm last night, when thirty-six year old Jonathan Stanford of Church Point, La. was traveling south on La 35 when his vehicle struck a bicyclist. Both vehicles were southbound in the southbound travel lane. The bicyclist, a 16-year-old male, attempted to change lanes directly in the path of the pickup. The driver of the pickup took evasive action by braking and steering to the left but was unable to avoid the bicyclist. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at Acadia St Landry Hospital in Church Point. No charges have been file in the crash.

This is the thirty-third fatal crash and the thirty- seventh fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
