Bayou Sorrel – A Plaquemine man was killed last night after being struck while riding a bicycle on LA 75 north of LA 404 shortly before 10:30 pm. Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated the crash on LA 75 in front of the Bayou Sorrel Fire Department. Troopers’ investigation revealed a 2009 Ford Pickup, being driven by Jody Deville Jr (W/M, age 20) of Plaquemine, was traveling south on LA 75. A 61-year-old white male on a bicycle, also traveling south on the southbound shoulder of LA 75, swerved to the left and rode out into the vehicle’s path. The pickup struck the rear of the bicycle and the bicyclist was ejected. The Iberville Parish Coroner’s office pronounced the bicyclist deceased at the scene. Impairment is not considered to have been a factor on the part of Deville. Impairment of the bicyclist is unknown, and Troopers have submitted a sample of his blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Contact Information: TFC Russell G.
