Evangeline Parish Crash

Kills One Person


July 22, 2008

Louisiana State Police - Troop I is currently investigating a two the vehicle fatality crash, which occurred on La 13 north of Mamou.

A pick-up truck driven by forty-eight year old Wilbert Fontenot was towing a white Ford van, northbound on La 13. The van was being pulled by a rope and occupied by thirty-nine year James Arnaud. An 18-wheeler driven by fifty-three year old William Reed, was traveling southbound on La 13. The van became detached from the pick-up and traveled into the opposing southbound lane of La 13. The van struck the 18-wheeler head-on in the southbound travel lane. The occupant of the van was ejected and died at the scene. The 18-wheeler overturned onto La 13 and became engulfed in flames. Fontenot had no injuries and charges are pending. Reed sustained minor injuries and was transported to Savoy Medical Center for treatment. This crash remains under investigation.

This is the thirty-fourth fatal crash and the thirty- eighth fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
