Louisiana State Police – Troop I is investigating a three vehicle fatal crash on La 13 at La 374, within Evangeline Parish.

The crash occurred shortly before 4:00pm, when twenty-one year old Travis David of Eunice, La, was traveling east on La 374. David stopped at for the stop sign on La 374 at its intersection with La 13. David then entered the intersection and struck a 2006 Chevrolet truck being driven northbound on La 13, by sixty-eight year old Roderick Fontenot of Mamou, La. After Fontenot’s vehicle was struck, he lost control, traveled into the southbound travel lane and struck a 2007 Ford SUV head-on.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene and the three passengers in the Ford SUV were transported to a local hospital with moderate to serious injuries. Fontenot sustained minor injuries and David was not injured. Alcohol is not suspected in this crash however, test results are pending at the crime lab. David was cited for Failure to Yield from a Stop Sign and Illegal Window Tint.

The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified of the crash.

September 21, 2008

Louisiana State Police – Troop I was advised by Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, that twenty-three Kayla Fontenot had succumb to her injuries, on September 20, 2008 at 9:35pm. Kayla received these injuries in a crash on September 16, 2008, when Kayla was the rear left passenger in a Ford SUV, which was struck head-on in a crash on La 13.

This was the 44th Fatal Crash and the 49th Fatality, Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
