On November 26, 2008, a Louisiana State Police – Troop I trooper, conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Freightliner tractor truck to conduct a Motor Carrier Safety Inspection on Interstate 10 near milepost 113 in St. Martin Parish. The truck driver was identified as Floriberto Calderon of Burbank, Illinois. Calderon was transporting a shipment of limes and pineapple from McAllen, Texas to North Carolina. The trooper became suspicious and searched the produce shipment. During the search, the trooper located 114 bundles of Marijuana mixed in with the produce. State Police Narcotics Investigators responded to the scene and took possession of the driver, truck, and drugs. Calderon was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail on the charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. The Marijuana had a combined weight of 1455.18 pounds and had a street value of approximately $1,455,180.00.
