Kills Church Point Resident

October 25, 2008

Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatality crash on US 90 west of Rayne in Acadia Parish.

The crash occurred at around 1:40am this morning, when twenty-one year old Jesse Carvell of Lafayette, La, was traveling eastbound on US 90 when, for unknown reasons; the vehicle was driven off the pavement onto the unimproved right shoulder. Carvell, abruptly steered the vehicle to the left and the vehicle crossed both lanes of US 90 and entered the left ditch where he struck an embankment. The vehicle rotated an unknown number of times and came to rest in the ditch facing west. At some point during the rotation, both the driver and twenty-six year old Kathie Richard, of Church Point, La, were ejected from the vehicle. Neither Carvell nor Richard were restrained at the time of the crash. Carvell was transported to American Legion Hospital in Crowley with moderate injuries. The Acadia Parish Coroner pronounced Kathie Richard, dead at the scene of the crash.

Carvell, was charged with vehicular homicide, DWI second offense (blood & urine test pending), Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and No Seatbelt. Carvell was released from the hospital and booked at the Acadia Parish Jail in Crowley.
