Grand Jury Returns a True Bill

Charging a Police Officer

November 13, 2008

On Monday, November 10, 2008, a Vermilion Parish Grand Jury returned a True Bill charging forty-nine year old Delcambre Police Officer Ernest Billiot, with Sexual Battery and Malfeasance in Office. The indictment followed an investigation by the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division, into allegations of criminal behavior alleged by a female motorist who was stopped by Billiot, while driving through the town of Delcambre during the early morning hours of February 17, 2008. As per the indictment, Billiot was arrested without incident on Monday, November 10, 2008, at approximately 5:30 PM at the Delcambre Police Department. Billiot was booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center with bond set at $35,000.00.

Louisiana State Police will continue to assist other law enforcement agencies with investigations such as this one. We need to re-assure the citizens of this state, that we will not allow this type of misconduct.
