| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent St. Landry Parish Railroad Enforcement Detail November 5, 2008 Louisiana State Police - Troop I, Eunice Police Department, Opelousas Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad Police conducted a six hour Railroad Grade Crossing Enforcement Detail. Louisiana ranks sixth in the nation with a total of 121 Railroad Grade Crossing Collisions/Incidents for 2007. Thus far in 2008, Louisiana has had 76 Collisions/Incidents. This is about a twenty-five percent reduction, from where Louisiana was at this time last year. These enforcement efforts are in conjunction with the CARE (Crash Accident Reduction Enforcement) program. Troopers and officers were situated near the grade crossings, observing the violations as they occurred. Officers issued twenty-three citations for Disobeying the Railroad Warning Devices, one Driving Under Suspension and one person was arrested on a Criminal Arrest warrant. Louisiana State Police - Troop I will continue to work with the local law enforcement agencies to combat the amount of Railroad Grade Crossing Collisions in St. Landry Parish. Remember, a train cannot swerve nor can it stop on a dime. Not paying attention at a Railroad Grade Crossing could cost you everything.
