St. Landry Parish Sheriff Deputy
in Critical Condition

February 26, 2008
Louisiana State Police – Troop I is investigating a crash on LA 31 near Victoria Loop within St. Landry Parish, which occurred at 2:15p.m.

Sixty six year old Norbert Auzenne of Opelousas, LA, was operating a late model Lexus, traveling north on LA 31 in a funeral precession. Forty year old St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Deputy, Spencer Gallow was also traveling north on LA 31 in the on coming southbound travel lane. Deputy Gallow was escorting the funeral precession utilizing his emergency lights and siren on his police motorcycle. Gallow maneuvered around traffic to get to the next intersection. Auzenne did not see deputy Gallow coming from behind and began to turn left onto Victoria Loop. Deputy Gallow’s police motorcycle struck the rear of the Auzenne vehicle, causing the vehicle rotate counter clockwise and strike another St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Deputies vehicle, which was stopped at the stop sign on Victoria Loop at it’s intersection with LA 31. Deputy Gallow was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained critical injuries. No one in the Auzenne vehicle was injured. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
