Young Child Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Pointe Coupee Parish

Erwinville – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash today on US 190 at LA 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish shortly before 2:00 p.m. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Kia passenger car, being driven by Sarah McConnell (W/F, age 29) of Arlington, TX, was traveling south on LA 1 approaching the intersection with US 190. McConnell attempted to make a left turn onto US 190 eastbound and pulled directly into the path of a 2002 Chevrolet pickup, which was traveling west in the left westbound lane. The pickup, being driven by Jesse Guillory (W/M, age 44) of Port Barre, LA, struck the left rear passenger door and left rear quarter panel of the Kia. The Kia rotated clockwise and came to rest in the left eastbound lane of US 190. The pickup continued a short distance west on US 190 and came to rest in the left westbound lane.

There were four additional occupants riding in the Kia at the time of the crash. The right front passenger, Jeremy Albrecht (W/M, age 33) of Arlington, TX, was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. The right rear passenger, Laura Albrecht (W/F, age 60) of Arlington, TX, was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle, and sustained life-threatening injuries. An infant in the rear center seat properly restrained in a child safety seat suffered minor injuries. The left rear passenger, Ethon McConnell (W/M, age 7) of Arlington, TX, was properly restrained with a seat belt, but suffered serious injuries. All five occupants were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. After arriving to the hospital, Ethon McConnell succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Guillory was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash. Guillory’s passenger, a 9-year-old girl properly restrained in the right rear seat, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. Guillory voluntarily submitted a breath sample to the Intoxilyzer 5000, which showed no detectable alcohol in his system. Troopers have submitted a sample of Sarah McConnell’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
