Teen Killed When ATV Collided with SUV Geismar – Louisiana State Police, Troop A investigated a fatal crash in which a young man was killed riding an ATV on River Road (LA 75) yesterday afternoon shortly before 5:00 pm. Joshua A. Williams (B/M, age 19) of Gonzales was riding a Yamaha ATV south on the Mississippi River levee when he entered the LA 75 north of LA 73 and struck a 2003 Ford Expedition traveling the opposite direction. Troopers investigating the crash learned that Williams struck the Ford in the driver’s side and was then thrown from the ATV. Williams was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. Acadian Ambulance transported Williams to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Ford, Steven Maniscalco (W/M, age 39) of Plaquemine, was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred and was uninjured. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. Maniscalco voluntarily submitted a breath sample to the Intoxilyzer 5000, which showed that he had no detectable alcohol in his system. Troopers have submitted a sample of Williams’ blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. This is the fourth ATV fatal crash Troopers have investigated in the Troop A area over the past year. In each instance, the ATV was being driven upon a public roadway and the operator was not wearing a helmet. Troopers would like to stress the importance of wearing proper safety equipment while riding ATV’s. In addition, it is very important that ATV operators are properly trained, comfortable, and on the appropriate size ATV before riding alone.
