At 4:00 pm this afternoon, Louisiana State Police - Troop I responded to a three vehicle crash on La 724 at Landry Road. Upon arrival, troopers found the three vehicle crash had claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

Forty year old Johnny R Thibodeaux Jr. of Carencro, La was operating a 2003 Honda motorcycle north on La 724, approaching Landry Road. Twenty six year old Byronne Jenkins of Lafayette, La, was operating a 2001 Dodge truck east on Landry Road. Jenkins stopped for the stop sign on Landry Road at its intersection with La 724. Jenkins then attempted to cross La 724 and was struck by the motorcyclist. The Jenkins vehicle then continued east and struck a 2004 Chevrolet SUV, driven by sixty eight year old Charles Roche of Lafayette, La. The Roche vehicle was stopped at the stop sign on Landry Road on the east side of La 724. Jenkins and Roche were not injured, and the crash remains under investigation. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing an approved DOT helmet and alcohol is not suspected in this crash, but test results are pending.

This is the sixteenth fatal crash and sixteenth fatality, Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
