Three Dead In Two Separate
Crashes


May 11, 2008

On May 10, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated two separate fatal crashes with three fatalities.

At approximately 12:30 pm, troopers investigated a single vehicle crash on La 333, near the Chevron docks in Intercoastal City in Vermilion Parish. Twenty seven year old Joshua Cardon of Chalmette, La, was traveling south on La 333. Cardon entered a curve and traveled off the roadway. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a ditch embankment, causing the vehicle to over turn. The passenger in the truck, thirty one year old Anthony Lorino of Chalmette, La, was partially ejected. Lorino died as a result of his injuries at the scene. Cardon and Lorino were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Cardon suffered minor injuries and the crash is still under investigation. Cardon’s BAC level was .000g% and drug impaired is not suspected however; tests are pending at the LSP crime lab.

At approximately 2:45 pm, troopers responded to another single vehicle crash on US 190 west of Basile in Acadia Parish. Sixty six year old Jimmie Lecoq of VillePlatte, La was traveling east on US 190 when she traveled of the right side of the roadway and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then struck a tree ejecting the front seat passenger, sixty nine year old Winfield Lecoq of Villeplatte, La. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger in the vehicle, seventy eight year old Bonnie Ritter of Villeplatte, La, was also fatally injured in the crash. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected in this crash however; test results are pending from the LSP crime lab. This crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
