Overnight Crashes Claim
Two Lives

May 15, 2008

On May 14, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop I responded to a single vehicle crash on La 330 near St. Elmo Road at around 8:30 pm in Vermilion Parish.

Twenty seven year old Wade Lacoste of Erath La, was operating a 2002 Chevrolet pickup east on La 330, when he entered a curve traveling at a high rate of speed. Lacoste drove off the roadway and entered the ditch on the right side of the roadway. The vehicle flipped over in the right ditch, crossed the roadway and flipped again in the left ditch. Lacoste was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Alcohol use is suspected in this crash. The driver was transported the Abbeville General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.



At approximately 12:05 am this morning Louisiana State Police – Troop I responded to another single vehicle crash. This crash occurred on US 90 near Amelia in St. Mary Parish.

Twenty four year old Jean Daigle of Lafayette, La, was operating a 2000 Ford Excursion SUV east on US 90 when for unknown reasons he traveled off the roadway into the center median. The SUV rolled over several times, ejecting the unrestrained driver. Daigle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troop I has investigated twenty-one fatal crashes thus far in 2008. 65 percent of the people fatally injured were unrestrained at time of the crash. Alcohol use is also suspected in this crash.
