| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent Troopers Buckled Down On Seatbelt Enforcement May 27, 2008 Louisiana State Police Troop I and local law enforcement agencies were buckling down on those not restrained during the Memorial Day Weekend. Louisiana State Police, Acadiana Team of the LA Passenger Safety Task Force and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission sponsored a Child Passenger Safety Checkup Event. The car seat safety check event took place on Saturday, May 24, 2008, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. at the Abbeville Wal-Mart. The event was a huge success with certified technicians checking twenty-six child seats. One hundred percent of the seats checked were misused or needed to be replaced. Every seat was corrected and every child left the parking lot, safer than they arrived. The Safety Task Force also replaced five seats that were in unusable condition, with brand new seats free of charge. At the same time, Troopers and local law enforcement agencies were enforcing the Louisiana Seatbelt Law. Nearly eight hundred Seatbelt and Child Restraint citations were issued by Law enforcement. Troop I has investigated twenty-three two fatal crashes thus far in 2008. Approximately eighty percent of the people whom were fatally injured were not restrained at the time of the crash. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
