Claims Two Lives


June 13, 2008

Louisiana State Police – Troop I is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on La 14 at L. Theriot road, within Iberia Parish.

The Crash occurred shortly before 9:00pm on June 12, 2008, when fifty seven year old Marlene Acord of Abbeville, La, was operating a 2002 Chevrolet SUV, west on La 14 approaching L. Theriot road. Thirty- six year old Jose Tadeo of Columbia, La, was operating a 1992 Ford Tempo north on L. Theriot road approaching La 14. Tadeo, failed to yield from a stop sign and attempted to cross the westbound travel lanes of La 14, when his vehicle was struck by the Acord vehicle. A passenger in the Acord vehicle, sixty-year-old Kenneth Acord, was not wearing a seatbelt and was fatally injured in the crash. A passenger in the Tadeo vehicle, Romula Garcia, of Mexico was also not wearing a seatbelt and was fatally injured. Three other passengers in the Tadeo vehicle were transported to local hospitals with moderate to severe injuries. Marlene Acord, was seatbelted at the time of the crash and was also transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Tadeo, was charged with Failure to Yield from a Stop/Yield sign, DWI First Offense, Operating a Vehicle illegally in the United States, two counts of Vehicular Homicide, two counts of Vehicular Negligent Injuring and No Drivers License.

This is the twenty-fourth fatal crash and the twenty-sixth fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2008.
