St. Landry Parish Railroad
Enforcement Detail

May 6, 2008

Louisiana State Police Troop I, Eunice Police Department, Opelousas Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad Police conducted a six hour Railroad Grade Crossing Enforcement Detail.

These enforcement efforts were in conjunction with the CARE (Crash Accident Reduction Enforcement) program. Troopers and officers were situated near the grade crossings and a state trooper riding the train called out the violations as they occurred. Officers issued twenty three citations for Disobeying the Railroad Warning Devices and one person was arrested by Railroad Police for Trespassing on the railroad tracks.

Louisiana State Police Troop I will continue to work with the local law enforcement agencies to combat the amount of Railroad Grade Crossing Collisions in St. Landry Parish.

Remember, a train cannot swerve nor can it stop on a dime. Not paying attention at a Railroad Grade Crossing could cost you everything.
