Pedestrian Killed on I-49

Carencro- Today, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash in which a Lafayette man was killed when he was struck by an 18-wheeler on I-49 northbound near milepost 7.5.

Killed in the crash was twenty nine year old William Guillory of Lafayette. Guillory was walking north on I-49 when he was struck by a northbound 18-wheeler. Guillory was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner.

According to the investigating troopers, on January 21, 2010, at about 6:05 am, thirty three year old Don Chambers of Opelousas was operating a 2002 Freightliner northbound on I-49 near milepost 7.5. Guillory was walking north in the northbound lanes of I-49. Evidence gathered at the scene indicated that Chambers attempted to avoid striking Guillory but, was unsuccessful.

Toxicology samples were taken from both Chambers and Guillory. The samples were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The results of the test are pending. This crash remains under investigation. This is the 4th fatal crash and the 4th fatality in the Troop I area this year. This is the 2nd pedestrian related fatality Troop I has investigated in 2010.
