| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release March 15, 2010 Centerville Man Killed in Crash St. Mary Parish- Today, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Centerville man on LA 317 near the Intracoastal Waterway. Killed in the crash was twenty-two year old David Champagne of Centerville. Champagne was killed when the vehicle he was a passenger in ran off the road and struck a tree. Champagne, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Champagne was transported to a local area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. According to investigating troopers on March 15, 2010, shortly after 1:30 p.m., twenty-two year old Blake Rivere of Centerville was driving south on LA 317 in a 2005 Dodge pick-up. Rivere was approaching a curve in the roadway when he ran off the right side of the road. Rivere overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road striking a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle. Rivere was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition. Blood and urine samples were obtained from Rivere and were submitted to Louisiana State Police Crime Lab where toxicology results are pending. Louisiana State Police remind everyone the importance of wearing a seatbelt when traveling in a motor vehicle. Wearing your seatbelt will reduce the risk of injury in most crashes.
