Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release Opelousas Man Dies in Crash Opelousas, LA- Today, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on US 190 at I-49 that claimed the life of an Opelousas man. Killed in the crash was sixty-eight year old Allen Espree of Opelousas, LA. Espree was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided with an 18 wheeler trailer. Espree was transported by Acadian Ambulance from the scene to a local area hospital where, he was pronounced dead. According to the investigating troopers, on January 29, 2010, shortly after 6:30 am, a 2003 Freightliner 18 wheeler, driven by thirty-eight year old Amos Thuo of Euless, TX, had exited I-49 southbound at US 190. Thuo failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. Espree was driving a 1995 Lincoln Town Car westbound on US 190 in the inside lane. The Lincoln struck the trailer of the 18 wheeler. Both vehicles came to rest on US 190. Thuo was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign. Thuo was not injured in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, and the results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation. For More Information Contact: Tpr.
